Sirma Media, publisher of multimedia knowledge and a part of Sirma Group, supported the team of the First English language high school in its participation in the National competition of young physicists. The eight edition of the event took place on April 16-17 in Shumen and Sirma Media covered all the team’s expenses, including the transportation and stay. The team of the First English language high school consisted of Momchil Naidenov (12 grade), Kaloian Metodiev (10 grade), Boriana Hadjiiska (10 grade) and Kristian Kunchev (10 grade). The team took fifth place and one of the students - Momchil Naidenov – was selected for the national team, which will represent our country on the international competition of young physicists in July in Teheran, Iran. For the other participants taking part in the competition was extremely valuable as a practical experience and in the years to come it’s very likely that some of them will be selected for the national team.

„We’re very grateful to Sirma Media for completely financing our participation in the national competition. This support showed in practice that the partnership between education and business can work successfully. I’m also satisfied with the level of the Bulgarian competition which remains rather high. Our students demonstrate very good knowledge on the theoretical side of Physics. In the competition took part students who are among the winners in the National Physics Olympiad and some of them have participated in the International Olympiad and have won medals. I think that the skills of the students for experimental work could be improved, but in order to achieve that we’ll need the respective school equipment. That’s why Sirma Media’s initiative of equipping physics classrooms in elite schools is a very good undertaking“- said Nikola Karavasilev, head of team of the First English language high school.

According to him, in order to increase the competition’s level a better publicity is needed, as well as improvement of the experimental skills of the students, which will be made possible through more practical activities during the classes and at the physics schools.
