In 2005 Sirma Media signed a contract with the Ministry of education and science for the license and development of Znam.bg - general knowledge web portal – a main element of the “Bulgarian national knowledge network". Since then the company, together with the other partners on the project, is supporting and updating the educational content in the portal and is developing and introducing new technological functionalities that are freely accessible for all teachers and students.

The main mission of znam.bg is to be the main source of knowledge and information - educational resources, Bulgarian and world literature and poetry, historical documents, video, audio and other multimedia content for the needs of the educational process in the primary and secondary school. In addition znam.bg will also be a main source of encyclopedical knowledge for the general public, as well as a entrance, leading to other specialized sources of knowledge.

The scope and quality of znam.bg’s content greatly exceeds the average home, even school library. At present znam.bg includes almost 150 000 articles, gallery of reference books, encyclopedias and dictionaries, library with works of Bulgarian and foreign authors, interactive geographical maps, images, audio and video fragments, as well as articles on specific and general subjects, arranged in various fields of science and knowledge.

An exceptional search functionality has been developed – by alphabetical or theme order, by words, word groups and phrases. The content is classified into hundreds of categories and subcategories.

In contrast to other internet sources, znam.bg’s knowledge is characterized by reliability, thoroughness, internal connections and interactivity. It also defines a specific Bulgarian context of the cultural environment that doesn’t exist elsewhere on the Internet.
